For the second year in a row, Rora Team, yet again, formulated and threw a show that is one for the books. In the midst of the Anime Expo madness, located in a downtown Los Angeles lofty room, RorAX'17 started the night with a knocking Brackets set, throwing in shifty beats and drumming bass, bringing in the crowd's attention by the minute. Then producer, Folie, shifted things into a melodic mood with his jazzy piano ballads and exquisite originals throughout the entire set. All perfectly in the evening, for a complete four hours straight, the music was seeping through the windows over looking the busy streets and the cheers of the audience echoing throughout the building causing a warning or two. Sets by artists like gupi, Mitomoro, and DJ Clickbait all offered a variety of heavy hyper bass and gripping tracks that left us sweating the begging for more. On the other hand, Omniboi delivered a groovy set composed of older goodies and newer tunes we all adore and love. Within the last hours of the night, a special performance from Shiki and Hentai Dude gave the show edge with their wild rap verses and a mix of hip-hop endeavors. To finish the Sunday evening, the sweet and enchanting sounds from Moe Shop gave the perfect ending to a heart filled event. Aside from the diverse tastes in music, the artist pop-up shop was more than successful with everyone crowding the tables to take a look and cop what you can only find at events like these. The Rora Team continuously contributes and inspires the people around them with each show that brings people of all together. There is just something about them that they have the gift of getting any room and inject it with an energy of positivity and love. Truly ready for next year, we can't wait to see where and what they do next! Below check out our recap of the night via photo gallery and recap video! Enjoy!
BARON LANTEIGN Written by: Zebrina Garcia If anyone is pushing the elements of visual art, it's Canadian resident, Baron Lanteigne. His digital practice holds your attention to different elements of perspective by using tools of video, sound, programming, and electronics. Diving into a virtual realm of his imagination, each project consists of ambitious human and digital conversions. Lanteigne progressively reforms the way art can be applied, digested, and displayed. For our next MEDIUM feature, read about Baron Lanteigne's journey in his artistic development and process. How long have you been creating art? idk What is your typical process for creating a virtually immersive piece? A typical animation requires the artist to frame the action and only create what is within the frame. This type of framing allows for very strong storytelling because every frame introduces a meaningful element or event and each frame is isolated from the other by a cut. ...
DJ/PRODUCER: HEADSTONE From Melbourne, Australia, DJ and producer headstone delivers a smoothly chaotic mix for us to enjoy. Carefully selected tunes from artists he's been indulging in over the past year, headstone helps us tip our toes in a glistening pool of diverse tracks. "I haven’t made a mix in over a year, so I took this as an opportunity to put together my favourite tracks I’ve found in the past year plus a few of my own. It’s jam packed with dark, heavy-hitting and melodic club music, featuring a lot from my favourite label Fractal Fantasy. Sinjin, Zora and the rest of their crew are my main inspiration at the moment and I feel they are the only collective that are truly pushing boundaries in our field right now. The rest is filled out with a bit of a UK influence I’ve had recently from the likes of Distro, sente and Bromley, plus a few heaters from my US club music friends and Jersey legends. I generally operate on an 'all killer, no filler' appro...
NOAH GARTON (MAJOR) Written by: DEVON Hi there! Welcome to MEDIUM! This new interview series is focused on visual artists using all kinds of mediums to express their creativity. We hope this series gives you insight into artists’ inspiration, process and style. Our first MEDIUM interview comes from Noah Garton who goes by the alias “major”. Noah is 18 years old and is from Essex, UK. How long have you been creating art? Mmnnnmnm well it wasn't as simple as an 'ok art time' type thing. I started out making awful ear-rape memes and shit-posts for my own entertainment in early 2015 with Sony Vegas, and then transitioned to cover art and animations along the way somehow. Here's the earliest known meme I have (please. kind reviews only) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdj036hNbBE … But I think I properly started in November 2017 when, after a few first attempts at art, my friend Ari took £100 off me and threatened to donate it to UKIP (very right wing ...
